California transplants Susan Yewell and Leslie Haley jumped right on the restoration bandwagon in downtown Marble Falls. We think they’ll make excellent adopted Texans! Marble Falls has always been one of my favorite Hill country small towns, even way, way back in the late ‘60’s when it was just a sleepy little burg. About the only things there were the great lake and the Bluebonnet Café. But the town has really grown up since then. The recent renovation of Main Street and the opening of great restaurants and shops has given a very sophisticated flair to the avenue. It’s even hard to find a parking place now! Susan and Leslie chose an great old building with an classic exterior front design to renovate for their wine bar and bistro. The dramatic burgundy color is at once soothing and elegant – makes a statement about what’s inside that leaded glass door. What is inside is a very upscale, yet inviting space – half wine bar – half bistro.
The wine bar has a nice tight list of wines, and I am happy to say, Susan and Leslie are great supporters of the Texas Wine industry, so you’ll find some of the best wines from Texas on their list, along with wines from small wineries from around the world – the ones that are hard to find. The wine bar half of the space boasts an early Texas style elegant bar with towering mirrored back, comfortable bar seating, a few bistro tables and a really fabulous red couch right in the center of the space. Perfect for relaxing with your favorite wine and perhaps an assortment of tapas. Wine bar staff is very knowledgeable and can assist in your selections and pairings with the tapas.

Ah, the tapas! Chef Rafael Garcia, whom some (like me) might remember from the departed Wild Horse Grille in Marble Falls, has created a really excellent selection of tapas covering a wide range of tastes. The tapas menu includes authentic Spanish paella!
The other half of the space features elegant, white linen cloth-covered tables with high-backed, very sophisticated chairs. The tables are set with cutting edge stemware which sparkles in the candlelight. Very chi-chi. At the dining tables you can order either from the tapas menu, or from the small entrée menu which changes daily. Chef Rafael features usually a steak or prime rib, a fish or seafood and lamb on several recent visits. The fish is always the freshest available and often a selection which you may not have tried before, such as escolar, an excellent, but not widely served fish. Service is very professional. The wait staff is very capable of assisting with wine/menu pairings. Falls Bistro & Wine Cellar gets the Texas Food and Wine Gourmet’s nod of approval as another shining new star in the Hill Country.
